So $17 million cut to Substance Abuse Services since 2001, 6 detox centers closed, heroin use doubling – can you afford to be silent. The first step is to send a letter expressing your concerns and suggestions to Secretary Ronald Preston, Executive Office of Health and Human Services, One Ashburton Place, Boston MA 02108. This is the umbrella agency for all human services, such as MA Bureau of Substance Abuse Services.

The National Parity Act for Substance Abuse Treatment –
H2256/S1138 “Help Expand Access to Recovery and Treatment (HEART) Act of 2003”, introduced by Representative Jim Ramstad (R-MN) and Sen. Norman Coleman (R-MN). The proposed law would prohibit health insurers from erecting discriminatory barriers to chemical dependency treatment, such as co-payments, deductibles or limited treatment stays that are different from other medical and surgical services. You can ask Senators Kennedy and Kerry and Your Congressman to support this bill easily!
